Organic Produce grown locally in Ottawa, right in your own yard!
Our goal at VegetablePatch.ca is to inspire organic living right within the city center. We take under-used green spaces in Ottawa, Canada, and turn them into beautiful and healthy vegetable gardens. The resulting business is a wonderfully low impact means of producing and distributing sustainably grown market produce. We achieve this in two ways, through our land sharing projects and through our local basket delivery service. Get involved and together we shall infuse some much needed environmentally sustainable vitality directly into the city. What could possibly feel better?

This season we have set a goal to build a strong and dedicated army of urban farming volunteers! If you would like to get your hands dirty, love fresh air, and are interested in learning how to grow delicious food of your own, then we want you! Stay informed about volunteer opportunities and other interesting news by joining our newsletter.

Here are four ways in which you can get involved with VegetablePatch:

   1. Buy a weekly vegetable share through our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project

   2. Visit us at the Main Street Farmers Market

   3. Share your backyard with us! Allow us to turn your backyard into an urban farm plot

   4. Volunteer with us!

Cheers,
Jesse, Kirsten and Genevieve

Some recent media attention:

On April 19th, Jesse and Genevieve were interviewed live on CBC radio's Ottawa Morning with Kathleen Petty. Click here to go to the Ottawa Morning archives. Just scroll down to find the VegetablePatch segment.

On May 5th, VegetablePatch.ca was featured on an episode of the World, a radio program that is broadcase to over 300 cities across the United States. To listen to the episode Click here. The segment about VegetablePatch.ca is about a third of the way into the show.

Also, an article written by Kathleen Wilker appears in the current Spring 2010 issue of “Ottawa Outdoors Magazine” To read the article Click here. Here is a list of locations where you can pick up a copy of Ottawa Outdoors.

The main reason Jesse started VP was to promote urban farming and encourage smart sustainable food production in cities across Canada. The recent spike in interest about what we are doing here in Ottawa is more then humbling. It is a sign that citizens support business based on principles of community sharing and cooperation. This year for VegetablePatch.ca tastes like it might contain a tsp of success and the potential of achieving those goals. It is super encouraging and makes us feel very proud.

We are currently seeking to form relationships with residents who have productive edible fruit trees on their propery. We propose to come pick the fruit, clean-up the windfalls and divide the haul into several shares; a share of fruit for you, some for our CSA participants, and possibly a share donated to the local food bank. No sense in wasting delicious local fruit. Please contact us.
